Itineraries
DAY 01:
SALTA
Welcome at Salta airport and transfer to our accommodation. The rest of the day will be free for us to discover this particular city. Lodging at Hosteria.
DAY 02:
SAN ANTONIO DE LOS COBRES / SALINAS GRANDES
We will depart early to Campo Quijano, through the Quebrada del Toro and finally, we will arrive to the pre-Hispanic city of Santa Rosa de Tastil with its legendary ruins. Our trip will continue to San Antonio de los Cobres, a typical town located at 4000 meters high. Later we will appreciate the “Salinas Grandes”; then descending over the “Cuesta de Lipan”, we will make a stop at the town of Pumamarca and its famous “Cerro de los Siete Colores”. Later we will arrive to our lodge at the painteresque town of Tilcara. Lodging at Hosteria.
DAY 03:
TREK TO THE GARGANTA DEL DIABLO (DEVIL´S THROAT) / TILCARA
We will have the morning free to discover the town and its unique things such us: la Plaza Grande, la Plaza Chica, the town church and the Pucará de Tilcara. In the afternoon, we will do a small trek to the Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat), walking along the old Kollas Paths and watching the amazing view. After 3 or 4 hours we finally will go back to Tilcara. Lodging at Hosteria.
DAY 04:
TILCARA / IRUYA / HUMAHUACA
Early in the morning we will take a local bus and will go to a small town located right in between the mountains, Iruya. From there we will have a special view to the end of the valley. After enjoying the town we will spend the night at Humahuaca. Lodging at Hosteria.(INCLUDED LUNCH BOX)
DAY 05:
UQUIA / QUEBRADA DE LAS SEÑORITAS
After breakfast, we will leave Humahuaca by bus and after10 km we will arrive to the small town of Uquía. Once there we will visit the church of “San Francisco de Paula” with its altar laminated in gold by the Jesuits in 1691 (year in which it was built) and adorned with the pictures of the “arcabucero angels” brought from Cuzco. Then we will do a small trek to the la “Quebrada de las Señorita”s o “Yacoraite”. The place is known for its paleontological deposits where we will meet fossils of the last great mammals that inhabited the Earth, like milodontes and gigantic perezosos. Back in Uquía we will visit a place where vicuñas are raised and an old hydraulic mill. At the end of the day we go back to Humahuaca. Lodging at Hosterìa. (INCLUDED LUNCH BOX)
DAY 06:
COLOURFUL TOWNS AND QUEBRADAS
We will leave Humahuaca and we will cross “Peña Blanca”, East border of the Quebrada of Humahuaca. Here, we will begin our adventure of “colorful towns and quebradas”. After a few kilometers, we will meet the first towns. The overwhelming plains of the Cocataca Valley will remind us one of the main Inca agricultural sites. During the morning, we will walk this valley and will take our lunch once in town. During the afternoon, we will go hiking for 2 and a half hour to watch the ancient paintings on rocks in Cerro Negro. From here, we will enjoy spectacular views over the valley. After getting back in our vehicle we will cross by different towns such as Valiaso and Pucará to climb the Serranìa of Santa Bàrbara (Santa Barbara Hills) reaching 4200 m above sea level. We will end up the day at the viewpoint in Cerro Horconal, with beautiful views over the Abra de Zenta (huge prairie). We will take a typical Northwest tea time and get back to our hotel by 17 hs. DAY 07:
QUEBRADA DE SAPAGUA / HORNADITAS COMMUNITY
We will depart to Humahuaca to the Quebrada de Sapagua in our minibus, where we will take a walk around the area. There, we will continue to the small community of the Hornaditas, where we will be able to share the life experience of the natural inhabitant of the area, which open the doors of their homes. Finally, we will go back to the city of Salta. Lodging at Hosterìa.(INCLUDED LUNCH BOX)
DAY 08:
SALTA AIRPORT
After breakfast we will be transferred to the airport to take flight.
