Itineraries

DAY 01:

SIERRA DE LA VENTANA

There are three ways to travel to Sierra de la Ventana: by plane to Bahía Blanca, by train to Tornquist or by bus to Sierra de la Ventana. We welcome you at Bahía Blanca airport, at Sierra de la Ventana Bus Station or at Tornquist train station. Transfer to the hotel in Sierra de la Ventana. Depending on the arrival time we can do a city tour or a trekking day in Parque Provincial Ernesto Tornquist (PPET). PPET is a park that protects 6700 ha of pampas grasslands and its associated fauna. During trekking activities we will learn about pampas biodiversity and its conservation problems.

DAY 02:

SIERRA DE LA VENTA / CARMEN DE PATAGONIA

Early in the morning we left for Carmen de Patagones in the Negro river, one of the biggest rivers in Patagonia. The village was founded in 1779 by the Spanish Crown. Then, in 1825, was the scenario of a battle between Argentina and Brasil. We will spend the night in this small colonial town to enjoy its historic centre with views of the Negro river.

DAY 03:

CARMEN DE PATAGONIA / SAN ANTONIO ESTE

After breakfast we will travel to San Antonio Oeste to have lunch at the beach, walk around the old port, and visit the Ingeniro Jacobacci museum to learn about railway history and the natural and archaological heritage of Patagonia. Then we will move to San Antonio Este to visit a sea lion colony. We can set up a camp in Punta Perdíz or spend the night in a small house.

DAY 04:

CAMINO DE LA COSTA - SAN ANTONIO ESTE / BAHÌA CREEK

We will leave beyond the pavement as we enter a dirt road call route 1 or “Camino de la Costa” that take us to Bahía Creek, a small town hanging from a cliff. Once in Bahía Creek we will visit Caleta de los Loros, a natural reserve with a high marine biodiversity, mainly seabirds. There is also possible, during low tide, to go fishing and gather seafood. We will spend the night at a house or we can also camp in the beach. Optional: spend one more night in Bahía Creek.

DAY 05:

CAMINO DE LA COSTA - BAHÌA CREEK / EL CÒNDOR

We will continue travelling along route 1, enjoying panoramic views of virgin beaches and cliffs until arrive to El Cóndor, a small beach town. There we will visit the biggest burrowing parrot (Cyanoliseuspatagonus) colony in the world and the oldest lighthouse in Patagonia. During the trip we will make a stop to visit Punta Bermeja, one of the most important sea lion colony in Patagonia.

DAY 06:

PEDRO LURO - FORTÌN MERCEDES - SIERRA DE LA VENTANA

Early in the morning we will start on the return journey to Sierra de la Ventana. During the trip we will make a stop in Pedro Luro to visit Fortín Mercedes, a museum about the “Conquista del Desierto” (Conquest of the Desert), a military campaign to establish Argentine dominance over the Patagonian territories, until this moment inhabited by indigenous people. In the afternoon we will arrive at Sierra de la Ventana Optional: instead of returning to Sierra de la Ventana, transport to Bahía Blanca airport or Tornquist train Station.
